Get Yourself Moving More at Work

Have you got 2 minutes...

How long have you been sat at your desk? When was the last time you got up?

More and more research is being done in the long term health effects of sitting for long periods of time in our daily lives and just by getting up and walking around for 2 minutes can have a positive effect on your health and well-being, according to researchers at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine.

This will also help you get to that magical 10K step target as recommended by the NHS to stay healthy!

The study showed that trading 2 minutes of sitting time for 2 minutes of walking time (or light-intensity activity) each hour lowered the risk of premature death by 33%.

Make a change today:

  1. Set an alarm
  2. Get those 2 minutes in, even if it means just walking to the toilet that is further away or a quick stroll down the corridors
  3. If you can add a set of stairs in all the better - stairs are great for adding a little extra cardiovascular activity into the mix

You could even read this article on your phone while walking - in just 1 working week you could add 80 minutes of light activity to your routine! So what are you waiting for? Set that alarm and get moving!
